Standby and speaker requirement

Is there a requirement to have a speaker connected when on standby and using the emulated output?

I've taken to using my HT-5R (Mk 1) as a headphone amp.

Re: Recording with Emulated Out on Metal 5 sounds crappy!?

The emulated out is crap for recording and I guess they put it there for live PA use. The problem is that the speaker simulation they use is garbage compared to what your DAW can use (impulse responses, cab sims, etc.) What you want to do is take the effects send of the amp into the USB interface, a...

Re: Speaker Cable Suggestions for HT 5RH

Echoing what Thephantum said, I'd recommend 16-18 gauge cable. 16 gauge is lamp cord and overkill for any guitar amp application. Anything thicker than that is a waste of money imo, even if you are driving a 100 watt amp 50ft feet away. Any smaller gauges are really overkill for the application. I k...

Re: HT5RH - Bass EQ

Best thing I can say after playing with it today is that the bass knob adds low end coloring. between 4 and 10, its fairly thick, but not boomy until high volumes. under 4, it really thins out the low end and tighten things up. id say its effecting in the range of 200-300hz. if u want more "boom", t...

Re: HT5RH - Bass EQ

The HTV-112 has a celestion 70/80 speaker, which as I recall has a very subtle bass response (I have one of them in another amp of mine, but its 10 years old well broken in.) As I recall from my HT-5, the bass knob adds more color than thump for the most part. And definitely thins things out when se...

Re: HT 5 Master volume

I can't really answer on the 1/4" vs xlr issue. The basic idea however is flawed. You can't "Push" the amp using the emulated output. The emulated output is really just a "preamp out" with optional reverb and a speaker simulator. For recording purposes, you are better off taking the effects send int...

Re: blackstar rubbish Faulty HT 20 Amp

This can be a common problem with cathode biased amps or amps that cannot have their biases adjusted. The tubes run too "hot" and the sound is great but tube life is short lived. If they won't take it back or won't repair it, your best hope is having a tech mod it to blow fewer tubes. you can try as...

Re: ID versus HT5

I think the problem with solid state amps isn't the fact that they are solid state but that they come (often) with low quality, low sensitivity speakers that lose the detail you are used to. I don't know much about the quality of the speakers that come with the ID series. I just know that good speak...

Re: Please help with choosing right ht-5 older version vs ne

I really like the "blackstar blackbird" speaker. A lot of people dislike it, but to me its warm and has become the speaker I use with my other amps. It's also not the loudest speaker, which I like since even a quarter watt of volume can be hard to manage through highly sensitive and overly bright gu...

Re: HT5 power tube distortion and other concerns

1). On mine, I get output distortion on the OD channel when the volume is between noon and cranked (but depends on the gain setting...noon for high gain and maybe 3 o clock for less gain.) On the clean channel, there is a very warbly effect when it gets turned up and the output valve is distorting. ...
