Re: Not a real tube overdrive

The HT5 is definitely NOT a tube amp in the traditional sense. It uses cascaded gain stages of a chip/feedback circuit. That much I know from glancing at the schematics and talking with other boutique amp builders. It has less to do with the rumor of a diode clipping and more to do with boost, somew...

Sounds great, thanks for sharing !

What did you end up mic'ing? The combo or an externa cab ? If the latter, what kind of speaker?

Re: New HT5 Heads/Combos still need a boost for high gain rock and/or soloing?

I've had mine for a month (the new Ht-5r) and when I first got it, I never thought I'd have the gain over noon on the dial, and I do like to play metal from time to time, even with active EMGs. I think for classic metal (like metallica) this amp is just fine out of the box. Granted, I think every a...

New HT5 Heads/Combos still need a boost for high gain rock and/or soloing?

Hi, I was hoping to get some opinions from owners of the newer version of the HT5 amps, which have more gain added over the previous versions. Specifically if you feel the amp has enough gain for hard rock and metal, as well as soloing. Or if, like their predecessor, the amps still sort of need a bo...

How is the HT1 for recording w/mic?

Anybody been doing any hard rock or metal recording with the HT1 via mic ?? I REALLY wanted to buy the amp but ended up going with the HT5. Specifically because it had tone controls. The one drawback of the HT line I noticed is there is a bit too much boomy bass going on for recording purposes. So I...

Re: HT5H vs. HT5R - Tone/gain differences?

I would be interested in what you think the difference in voicing is? is it in the character of the distortion, or simply a minor equalization thing? It's actually hard to describe, at low and moderate levels it's really similar to the old version. I'm guessing they maybe tweaked the voicing a bit ...

Update

Ok guys, So, I drove quite a ways tonight to the only store around to try and get to the bottom of things. The store did not have the heads in stock but they had the combos (new and old versions ), and a Blackstar 12" cab with Celestion that I was able to route them through. While the testing wasn't...

Re: HT5H vs. HT5R - Tone/gain differences?

I actually spoke with Blackstar today on this subject. A lot of things were discussed, some of which I will share: - The tone controls and ISF no longer function for the clean channel, they are dedicated to the gain channel now. The clean channel has one tone pot that is now dedicated to the clean c...

HT5H vs. HT5R - Tone/gain differences?

Hi, There's been some speculation on various forums about potential tone and gain differences between the legacy HT5H and the new HT5R. Anybody done any A/B comparisons or gotten any official statement from Blackstar on this?? Some people speculate there is mroe gain in the new HT5R, however that is...
