Re: Dear Blackstar.....

Stop shipping your amps with terrible quality tubes!! The first amp I bought was the HT Stage 60, sounded completely dull and like crap until i re-tubed the whole thing. It might be justifiable for a $900. However, recently I re-tubed my S1 104 6L6 and what a significant difference.....everything I...

Re: Blackstar S1 104 6L6

i think most tube amp users will agree that changing power valves without a bias is a gamble pure and simple you may go years without a problem - you may go 1 hour if it was simply plug and play there would be no pot there to adjust i have done it as well but i still dont recommend it as general ru...

Re: Blackstar S1 104 6L6

Being a careful owner of moderate intelect I have always changed the power tubes in my own amplifiers, this has never once caused a problem nor has it made them under perform. Nearly all of my 'techy' friends who own valve amps dont bias them when changing power tubes and they've never had problems...

Re: Blackstar S1 104 6L6

^^^^ the first part i agree with... the second part not so much - i have over the years found that a good tech is worth his weight in gold especially in certain parts of this great land  mine for example (who has been with me for years) charges me generally around 75 bucks to revalve a 2x12 an...

Bias?

My two cents worth... I wouldn't recommend changing your power valves without having a bias meter and the capability to check and confirm the bias is within a safe range. This is especially due to the fact that modern valves are often, quite frankly, shit. Even the ones that Blackstar fit from facto...

Any experience?

Thanks
I have some NOS Tesla E83CC which are a copy of the Telefunken ECC803S. I'll give them a try when I have time but it will be through my HT-5 10" boxes.

Re: Blackstar S1 104 6L6

Awesome. But what makes you come to this conclusion..... A simple process of elimination. Remove V1 and all the channels still work but seem to have a lot less gain so I conclude that this is the first gain stage as all channels still have their respective dedicated gain tubes as per below. Remove ...

Give it a little bit of vitriol

I like your approach. +1 Thanks for the info guys Yeah, well maybe my previous post sounded a little vitriolic but I stand by every word. However, I will say that I do love Blackstar products and think that they represent great value and quality for the price, just the attitude towards customers in...

V = ?

1046L6 update... I believe these are the correct designations for the pre amp tubes... V1 = 1st gain stage V2 = Phase inverter V3 = clean channel V4 = crunch channel V5 = OD1 / OD2 channel This should save some time with tube rolling, now you will know which swap outs will effect which channel. I ho...

Re: Blackstar S1 104 6L6

Further 1046L6 info... Tested my 1046L6 to get the following readings (useful if you can find a vendor who will match tubes at actual working voltages), the power tubes were in the amp at the time: Plate voltage = 470VDC Screen voltage = 470VDC Grid bias voltage = -53VDC The power amp tube socket te...
