Re: Cranked vs Pre amp distortion HT5
Yes, the clean channel is a bit disappointing on the newer models (I bought mine earlier this year). However, if you change the 12AX7 for a lower gain valve such as 12AU7 or 12AT7 (can't remember which I settled on in the end  ) you then have much more control over the gain on the dirty channe...

Re: the negative stories
In my line of work it isn't that something breaks down as it is inevitable eventually (the systems last 10 years plus and are generally worked very hard), however most customers comment that it's how well we deal with their breakdowns. I've even had customers who have had a run of various different ...

Re: Blackstar? Beware!
Unfortunately since buying my little HT5-R I've read a few stories like yours...I hope that they are the minority since the web tends to concentrate problems (not so many people post to say 'my amp is still working fine after X years). I would hope that someone at Blackstar (I'll avoid using your ac...

Re: Blackstar HT-5 Tube Swap
I put the 12AY7 in it tonight (mu 45 verses 100 for the original). It's given real control over the gain on the dirty channel, now goes completely clean at the low end adding small amounts of dirt until about 12-1 o'clock where it starts to really saturate. Along with a 4 way switch mod on my Teleca...

Re: Blackstar HT-5 Tube Swap
Yes, the 12AY7 is next...Not very rock n roll but I trapped a nerve in my back last week so I'm a bit limited about lifting the amp or even getting down on the floor to open it up again. On the mend a bit now, so it's my next job I think. I was advised on another forum that the 12AT7 takes more curr...

Re: Blackstar HT-5 Tube Swap
I received my spare valves this morning; I'd ordered a 12AT7 and a 12AY7 from Voc-Rock on eBay. I put the 12AT7 in which has a mu of 60 compared to the standard 12AX7 (mu 100) and supposedly a higher bandwidth from the data sheets I've found. In short it's a revelation for me: That abrupt jump from ...

Nice selection there.peterg2004 wrote:Here are some of mine...
I think you've got most bases covered there; room for a 335 type guitar I suppose, but that's the selection I'm aiming for myself. Currently have the Strat, LP and Tele options covered...SG or 335 type next I think.

Re: HT5RW Combo
Hi Andy, I'm using the same white HTR5 white amp myself for band rehearsal. The place we go to provides two Lany half stacks, a bass amp and a small PA. I expected to have to plug into the PA, but like you I found that at the levels we rehearse at it's loud enough in both clean and dirty channels. I...

White HT-5R owner
I just bought my little HT-5R last week as I wanted a small all valve amp with a great sound for living room and rehearsal use. Added bonus is that it fits in the boot of my 'weekend car' (a little BMW Z3) so I get to combine two hobbies by driving to rehearsal in the Z3 with the Blackstar in the bo...
