Unusual tube combo...

I was messing around with my Stage 60 today because, I've posted before, I've been trying to bring the gain down a bit for direct recording because although the gain was perfect "live" (with JJ ECC83s and an 82), it's far too over-the-top for direct recording. So I changed tubes, and combinations of...

Re: The Definitive valve / tube change guide

I read an article from an "techie" type a couple of weeks ago where he was getting into the reasons why and/or why not to bias an amp, and although I can't remember all the details (especially since most of the tech-speak went way over my head) he essentially stated that for a lot of practice-size/m...

Re: The Definitive valve / tube change guide

Nevermind, I think I got my answer. I don't even remember what my original intention was when I ordered those tubes LOL But I think I'm going to try the JJ ECC832 and EHX 12AY7 in V2 and see what they sound like, and the JJ ECC81 in V3 (I had put a JJ ECC82 in it a while back).

vbshredder wrote:In the HT20, it's V1=Clean channel tube, V2=Distortion channel tube, one for each channel. Does the 60 have a 3rd tube for the phase inverter?
Yes, it does have a V3. Unless someone can correct me though, V1=clean and V2=distortion on the HT-60 as well though, right?

V1/V2 confusion

I was gonna make a separate thread for this, then I thought it may be helpful info for a "tube guide" thread. Here's my question: Basically, what are V1 and V2 for, and where are they located in the HT-60? I replaced my tubes in mine maybe a year ago or more, and I researched and educated myself on ...

Re: Looking for a volume lead boost for overdrive channel HT-20H

If the Boss just isn't cutting (or should that be boosting?) it, and you check out other EQ's, make sure to check out the 10-band EQ from MXR. The 6-band works great as a boost in the loop, but the 10-band also has separate volume and gain sliders, so you can add those to your boost so you don't hav...

Re: Lesser-gain tube suggestions for my Stage 60?

In the Eurotubes link that IM4Tone posted, the writer on that page gets into the argument for/against balanced tubes, stating that he basically believes balanced tubes are a must to maximize an amp's potential...then again, he's selling tubes, so keep that in mind http://illiweb.com/fa/i/smiles/icon...

Re: Lesser-gain tube suggestions for my Stage 60?

Can't say I'm 100% sure on this, but I always associated "matched" with multiple power tubes....i.e. their output is matched; That's the way I always understood it too, but today I was reading a thing on thetubestore where the way they're talking about one specific, single tube, it made me start wo...

Re: Lesser-gain tube suggestions for my Stage 60?

Okay, after reading that link, and looking at some various tubes, and checking out the info they have on thetubestore, I have a few more questions: Are the terms "balanced" and "matched" interchangeable? I see both used, but it seems never by the same person, so I'm wondering if it's the same thing....
