speakers
Changing speakers changes the sound... I have tried the following speakers : Celestion G12T75 : not a good choice on this 1x12 Celestion V30 : a bit better than the 70/80's, and a bit louder. But not worth the money, too little difference with the 70/80's Eminence Wizard : Definitly better and less ...

Re: got a new ht 40 :(
The V30 is an 'OK' choice, but if you want to go further away from the original 70/80's compressed sound, try the Eminence Wizard. It will sound more open and louder. The EQ: boost the lower frequencies, cut a bit around 800Hz.. and maybe a bit on the high freqencies. Don't use too much extra pedal...

It's absolutely normal. The HT-40 sounds MUCH better with an EQ in the loop.

try this
First, check your tubes ( as said above) Second : If you want the amp real loud : try an Eminence Wizard speaker, it will add 5,5 extra db ... Ht-40 with 1 standard speaker = 113.4 db Ht-40 with 1 Wizard Eminence = 118.9 db Ht-40 with additionnal 2x12 cab with 2 Wizards = 121.9 db ( 50 watt amp on a...

ht-40 to 1936
I tried it in the past because I was expecting a better sound from the 1936.....but... The HT-40 doesn't sound good on the 1936. It just keeps the "ice picky cold sound" as with the internal HT-40 speaker. The sound only got better when connecting an EQ in the loop. The HT-40 sounded better through...

20 or 40
Playing at home, and at rehearsals ... 2 different worlds. Ideally you would need an HT-1 for use
at home (if you have neighbours), and an HT-40 for rehearsals.
But ..... you can play at very low volumes with the HT-40

HT-40 bottom end
I always use an EQ in the loop to compensate the lack of bass on the overdrive channel...
And an Eminence Wizard speaker ...
Got a very fat sound now
( .. but maybe you where talking about a drop in low end compared to the previous times
you used the OD channel??? )

Re: Blackstar HT-40 with Eminence Wizard speaker
Hi I use the Wizard speaker in the combo, and no external additional cab (at the moment) Today I played again for an hour or so, and the sound is very convincing. Definitly a perfect combination to get a real good sound at both high and "bedroom" volumes. I am very happy with this speaker, the top e...

Blackstar HT-40 with Eminence Wizard speaker
Swapped out the 70/80's speaker, and replaced it by a brand new Eminence "The Wizard" I bought today.. The results : ( Played with Boss GE-7 EQ in the loop - as I always do) The Wizard speaker convinced me from the very first seconds, much better, warmer and open sound. A huge upgrade for this amp !...

milder overdrive on an HT-40
Getting a milder overdrive on an HT-40 is a problem, but there are solutions : I always put an EQ in the loop, and use the regular overdrive channel ( not the boutique..). Using different preamp tubes could also help ( like the ones suggested here above). I also tried a V-30 speaker, it was a little...
