Blackstar HT-1R valves placement - check

Hi people. I have this doubt. I swapped valves in my Blackstar HT-1R a couple of times, and I want to be sure where ECC82 and where ECC83 are to be placed, since there's no marking on the circuitry. I expect preamp valve 12AX7 to be the one physically closer to the input jack. Is that correct? Any i...

Biasing HT Venue Mk II series amps; any experience yet?

Good evening people, I own both a HT Club 40 and a HT Club 50 Mk2 amps. While I read and learn from your experiences on the forum about biasing the former one, I can't seem to find any information concerning the Mk2 one. Did any of you have any experience in biasing the new line of amps? Thanks and ...

Re: THIN AND HARSH SOUND OF THE HT-40 ON OVERDRIVE CHANNEL

I forgot to say that before replacing preamp tubes, boutique clean was not really into my tastes. Now it seems to me more alive and warm than modern mode! Am I crazy in this?

Re: THIN AND HARSH SOUND OF THE HT-40 ON OVERDRIVE CHANNEL

The preamp tubes will have a bigger impact on how the amp sounds than power tubes will. As you are hearing, Tungsols are much brighter and crisper than Sovteks. Ruby's are OK, but they are really just Chinese tubes that have been tested and re-branded. The thing is, unless you are pushing the maste...

Re: THIN AND HARSH SOUND OF THE HT-40 ON OVERDRIVE CHANNEL

Correct. Remove the back panel and you will see 4 valves total. The preamp valves (12AX7's) are the 2 smaller ones. The larger bottles, with the retention springs, are the (EL34) power valves. Hi mate, just wanted to let you know that this morning I swapped the preamp tubes for a couple of matched ...

Re: Which OD pedal to boost HT Club 40?

You didn't mention where you tried the pedals, but the best place to put a boost is in the effects loop. Try the DS-1 again, but turn the drive all the way down to minimum. Then adjust the level and tone to see if you can dial something in. Personally, I use modified Boss BD-2. Even with the drive ...

Which OD pedal to boost HT Club 40?

As per title, which OD pedal did you find to be useful to boost the HT Club 40, expecially during solos? Is the SD-1 good enough? I see that the TS got really expensive, at least here in Italy. I have a DS-1 but I couldn't find any good setting to use together with the amp gain channel. Maybe it's m...

Re: THIN AND HARSH SOUND OF THE HT-40 ON OVERDRIVE CHANNEL

+1 on TungSol's. Get normal pins. For 99.9% of us, gold pins are snake oil. Yes, gold is one of the best conductors of an electrical signal. That's a fact. However, the connectors in the tube sockets are not gold, so nothing is gained by having gold pins. For example, if the socket connectors are m...

Re: THIN AND HARSH SOUND OF THE HT-40 ON OVERDRIVE CHANNEL

If I am not mistaken the original preamp tubes in in the HT are EHX so you might not hear that much of a difference. The power tubes are some Dr. Tube or something. I have experimented with EHX tubes the basics and the gold-pin and didn't find it as nice sounding as the Tung Sols. Buy different bra...

Re: THIN AND HARSH SOUND OF THE HT-40 ON OVERDRIVE CHANNEL

You need to really start with what kind of sound you are going for. One way to answer that is where do you run your ISF? If it's towards the British side then you are going to want a speaker that puts emphasis on the upper mids (like a Celestion). If it's towards the American side, then you want a ...
