I don't have the "R" version. but on my HT-5 combo, I can dime the gain keep the volume around 9 o'clock and be comfortable at bedroom levels. But the volume really picks up beyond 11 oclock and is not really usable. It's a loud 5 W amp.

Re: Ht-5r reliability ?
I bought an HT-5 in 2011 and have had no problems with it, but I feel for those who may have gotten a lemon.

Re: Which Amp to suit my needs before purchase, please respo
It's really a personally choice, but you won't be able to drive the 20 or 40 very hard in a small room - it'll be pretty loud. I can crank up my HT-5, and though it's generally too loud as well, it is tolerable for short periods of time. But if you also need to play live with it, the 20 might be a g...

40 would be overkill for sure.
I would look at the HT-5R. I have a similar setup for home recording. Using pedals in front and through the effects loop. Nice tone even at lower volumes.
HT-1 might even work.

Before and after samples of speaker swap?
Has anyone done a speaker swap in their HT-5 and have sound samples of the before and after? I am considering updating mine, but only if there is a marked improvement that I can hear.
I already swapped the preamp tube for a Tung-Sol.

Sample after tube replacement?
Does anyone have sample clips of their HT-5 before and after a pre-amp tube replacement. Preferably a TUNG SOL 12AX7?

Ht-5 - Getting good lead tones?
What advice do you have on getting good lead tone out of the HT-5's crunch channel ? I want play the crunch channel as my main tone, then stomp out to get something with a fair amount of sustain for leads. Is it enough to place a clean boost in front of the amp? I will add some delay via the FX loop...

Effects loop or direct for pedals
If I want to add a reverb and delay pedal to my HT-5 rig, should I run them through the FX loop or can I run them before the guitar input. I want something like this: GTR -> OD/DIST -> DELAY / REV -> HT-5 Or should I pull out the DELAY and REV into the FX loop? Does it even matter? Update: Sorry, I ...
