Hey all,

I've finally put my HT-5R to the recording test yesterday evening. I've been getting great tones from it using a BOSS GE-7 in the loop to shape the tone a bit further than what the onboard EQ allows for. It's still all original, no tube changes, no speaker change.

Guitar: ESP LTD EC-400 with EMG 60/81 (bridge position)
Settings were: Gain: 10 o'clock, Volume: around 8 o'clock (1.5-2.0), Bass: full, Mids: none, Treble: full, ISF: Full UK, no reverb

Pic of the EQ pedal is here https://www.dropbox.com/s/7wtpfexmvi8rft5/IMG_0184.jpg

Mic'ed with a Rode NT-1A (couldn't find my Shure SM57 or Beta 57, so figured I'd give the Rode a shot), aimed at about 5cm left from the center and a bit inwards following the speaker cone. Pic here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tszin5m55jffdn6/IMG_0188.JPG

Signal path: Guitar -> HT-5 pre -> BOSS GE-7 in the loop -> HT-5 power amp and speaker -> RODE NT-1A -> TASCAM US-600 -> Logic Pro

There is a bit of post-EQing, mostly cutting around 4Hz for the NT-1A signature upper mids.

Let me know what you guys think. I personally think it's quite a solid tone, and it is in fact better than the tone I'd get from my Mesa/Boogie Mark III Blue Stripe combo as far as I recall.

Cheers,

Alex
