My friend just bought a Marshall JVM 205H with 2x12 1960 lead cab.
I really like the tone he got but I found is amp to be pretty noisy.

I'm going for a blackstar HT-40-50 or 60 with a 4x12 with v30's.

Can someone tell me if they'll sound simillar and wah are the big differences between the sound of boths?
People say that blackstar are kinda better marshalls?

Blackstars are designed by people who use to work for Marshall and yes the tone is similar to a Marshall but Ive no experience of the JVM 205 so cant say how they compare tonally although I think it has voice swithes similar to the blackstar

I can say that the build quality of the Blackstars are top notch and (IMO) generally better than similarly priced Marshalls. The stage 60 has 3 channels as well as voice switches so very versatile.

If I were going that direction, I'd certainly give a thorough test drive to the HT50 , the only head of those you've mentioned. If possible, go to a Music store that carries both Marshall and do a side by side with each using the same cab and take your guitar with you if there is not one exactly like it available at the store. This is the best way since we all hear things a little differently.

Agree with whats been said, and unless the Marshall is used, you won't find one in the price range of the HT-50 with the same kind of quality.

I mean if you could find a used JVM or JMD or DSL/ TSL, etc.,or don't mind the sound of the MA (Marshalls 50 and 100 watt made in vietnam EL-34 heads and combos, 2 channels with boost), then you might want to consider it. But for a new amp, the HTs are pretty tough to beat.

I'm under the impression that the 40-50-60 are basically the same amp with slightly different pre-amps and obviously head / cab differences.

You just have to try it out to see if you like it. Blackstar has a Marshall flavor, thats close, but maybe not close enough for some. I'm not saying Marshall has a monopoly on tone either, just subtle differences.

I liked the sound but I had 2 marshalls and had troubles with both of them.
A JCM-900 Xl back in 1997 and one dsl 50 5 years ago.

Tha last amp I had was an orange rv 50 and I loved that amp but the sound is a bit too loose and
I sometimes need a great chugga chugga distortion for palmuting.

I've heard great clips on blackstar on youtube, why I'm here! :P
