Ok I'm looking to get a new Blackstar Series One head. Today on ebay a new/used only a month old sold for $640.00. The auction was 10days long 28 bids and sold for only $640.00. Are these amp very good are they worth the $2000.00? The resale worries me! What do you guys think?

These amps are very good, IMO the best thing I've ever played through.

The resale value thing should only be an issue if you're selling it - mine's a keeper. :D

Maybe get a used one cheaper and get it revalved / serviced by a good amp tech?

Oh sorry this is the auction that went for $640. The other one is another sale for CHEAP. Why such bad resale?

Something is fishy about these two auctions. If you notice, both amps are from the same seller (same phone number in listing and username). First ad says his fiance lost her job, second says he lost his job. Either he decided not to sell it cheap for $640 (he now has it listed with a more realistic selling price of $1100), or he's just full of crap.

Look like the Series One 100w head is selling new for $1699 from the big box stores (GC, MF, Sweetwater) and B stocks/refurbished/ebay merchants @ $1359. If you check the completed listings for used ones on ebay, they average for $900-1000.

Doesn't seem like that is a bad resale value to me.

I get it, I'm just not sure about a purchase. Way too many posts about failed amps

What you need to realize, is that people with issues are usually the only ones to post in forums for answers/to complain. All those that are pleased with their purchases will not feel the need to praise what they already thought was a good decision. It makes for a very skewed picture. As an example, how many posts on this forum are about bad units...10, 50, 100??? How many units do you suppose have been sold and what do you think the % is?? Also, how was the problem rectified by the manufacturer?? There will always be issues with a product from any manufacturer, since no one is perfect. I think that if you search other manufacturer specific forums, you will find a fair share of issues on all of them. It's the nature of the beast.

FWIW, I am throughly pleased with my Blackstar. Would I change anything...sure, already tinkered with different tubes and speakers. But, for the $$ it was a great purchase.

YMMV...
