S1 104 EL34: Tube recommendations and placement.

Hello everyone!
I have an S1 with EL34's in it.
I'd like to try using a 12AU7 instead of AX7 in the preamp to help soften the preamp gain, since I run my master volume at 7 and really work the power tubes. (Thank the lord for attenuators!)
Only problem is, I can't find the tube layout schematic for the amp anywhere. Any suggestions or useless info you might be able to give me?
Furthermore, every replacement set of tubes I see only shows 4 preamp tubes (3x12AX7's, and 1x12AU7's) But my amp has 5 preamp tubes.
I'd really like a schematic, or explanation of what the tube layout is.
Last but not least, anyone have any recommendations for preamp tubes?
i removed the suggested EL34B's, hated them! Sounded/felt too much like 6L6's, which is NOT what I wanted from an EL34 based amp.
