Crackling sounds from my Artisan 15

I'm getting a nasty sounding crackling sound every few minutes or so on my Artisan 15. It doesn't happen with the guitar unplugged. I changed cables etc. but no difference. It sounds very much like the sound is some kind of failing component. Valves? Or a cap?

Any ideas anyone?
