Swapped out the 70/80's speaker, and replaced it by a brand new Eminence "The Wizard"
I bought today..

The results : ( Played with Boss GE-7 EQ in the loop - as I always do)

The Wizard speaker convinced me from the very first seconds, much better,
warmer and open sound. A huge upgrade for this amp ! Oh yes ... it is also
louder (sensitivity of the Wizard is 103,5db = which is as loud as most 4x12's)

BUT... it is possible to have a better sound, on a lower volume than with the 70/80 ...

My choice is made Image

That's great to hear! What type of music are you playing or what kind of tones are you going for?

The three speakers on my list are Eminence Wizard, Eminence The Governor, and WGS Reaper. Doing all the research I can on these and applying them to what sound I'm looking for.

Is this in the combo or an extension cabinet?

I have an Eminence Private Jack in an HTV112 extension cabinet.

If I remember correctly, the Governor is a V30 clone?

I'd suggest adding the Cannabis Rex to that list. Got one in my 40 and couldn't be happier - highs aren't quite as pronounced as with some other Eminence speakers, and less screechy (to my ears, anyway!) than the Celestions I've tried. I use mostly single coils, so for those who love their HBs it might not be the best option. Having said that, the amp can scream with the best of 'em with this speaker and I reckon there's still plenty of treble response for most preferences.

Hi

I use the Wizard speaker in the combo, and no external additional cab (at the moment)
Today I played again for an hour or so, and the sound is very convincing.
Definitly a perfect combination to get a real good sound at both high and
"bedroom" volumes. I am very happy with this speaker, the top end is sweet,
and the harshness has gone completely. So, I have decided to keep the amp
instead of selling it. I play guitar for about 35 years now, I always trusted Celestion
speakers ( G12T75's, V30's, Greenbacks ), but now I will add Eminence to the list.
They say the Wizard is a Celestion G12H30 clone, and I must say : It's a damn good one !

Answers to questions here above :

"If I remember correctly, the Governor is a V30 clone?"
=> Yes, it is.

"What type of music are you playing or what kind of tones are you going for?"
=> Classic Rock, AC/DC, blues. I usually play on Marshall DSL and 1959X, on 1960A(jcm800)
and a newer 1960AX cabs. Guitars : Gibson SG Standard and an SG Special.

PS : Don't forget the EQ in the loop, combined with a new speaker, this will result
in a major sound boost. (my Boss GE7 setup : +5db at 200Hz, -5db at 800 and 1,6kHz,
-2,5 at 3,2kHz )

Ht-40 settings :

Channel : Standard overdrive
Overdrive gain : 2
Overdrive volume : 6
Bass 10
ISF 10
Treble 6,5
Middle 2,5
Master Volume : 2,5

(Sounds maybe a bit darker, but sweet, and exellent for use at home..)

cool!! that's something for me to consider, considering you got more volume/headroom with those speakers

does the Eminence Wizard takes off the bassy side that the modern channel voicing has at all? im looking for a more versatile clean sound and being looking for this speaker that could be helpful...
