Emulated Output for Dummies

Hi all,
I have a Club HT40 combo, and will be going into a studio to record (live) next month. In case the situation arises where I need to use the emulated output, can someone please tell me how to use it? Please type very slowly and use short words, Im not too technical!
I guess Im asking
1. How to set the amp up to use it
2. what to do and what NOT to do
3. can it record clean channel crunch and OD channel ok?
4. and..is the cable that goes into the Emulated Output Mono or Stereo and
5. is it best to go to a DI box before recording?

I know its no substitute for a mic but this is just in case...

I've got the club 40 as well.
Here is how to do this....

1. Use a good lead, good cable
2. You can record silently the mix board just by turning on STANDBY ONLY On amp ,let it warm up a bit .
I usually wait 3-5 minutes.....
This way you can listen to amp in the mix ... No sound comes out of speaker...

OR.......
Repeat steps above. AND. After a few minutes in standby. Turn on power switch as usual.
Adjust master volume as desired.
This sends signal out of emulated out and speaker as well....

Also....

Any sounds FROM. Amp will go yo board or recording device...

Clean ,effects ,distorted ETC... JUST LUKE SOUND THAT COMES OUT OF AMP..

I would like to use emulated output for recording to eliminate external noise. What device do you suggest that will act as a recorder. I am just a home hobbyist.

Reaper is one of the best DAW's around...IMHO at least. You can try the full featured version (it's not a trial version) for 30 days. After that, it costs $60, which is much less than most other DAW's on the market.

Then get yourself an inexpensive audio interface. Something like this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AudioBoxUSB

You will not be disappointed with the results from a rig like that.

For the record, you can hook the emulated out directly to the mic in on a computer. The problem with that is that the preamps in computers are literally crap. You will not get a noiseless recording. There will be an audible level of hiss and crackling. An audio interface has much better (and thus quieter) preamps. So it will give you much better results.
