Hello there, well there have been couple of questions about tubes recently, so i thought of starting a thread to discuss the tubes on the HT venue series. Alot of guys don't like the stock TAD and prefer JJ or Tung Sol. Well, i personally would like to replace my tubes (because thats what i concluded by seeing all the guys with new tubes doing jumping jacks), and i was given two advices: 1- Replace all three tubes in pre amp section (2 ecc83 and 1 ecc82) by JJ or Tung Sol. 2- Replace ecc83 in V2 position by GT 12ax7R.

To me i am a noob, don't know what is V1,2 and 3. so for all of you tube heads out there, please enlighten the mere mortals such as my self.

Thanks

Hi bud,

My HT60 actually had a SovTek in v2! I replaced that with a JJ last week and OD2 sounds better, a bit smoother than before, which is what I was going for. I`m looking to take some ice-pick of OD1 though, so would be interested in what other people have done there.

My power amp has 2 JJ`s in which I sent back to Blackstar with my amp, they were happy to fit these.

I use EHX 12AT7 in position for clean and Tung-Sol ECC803S for OD channel. For power amp section Tung-Sol EL34B, much better sound to what I got with the original tubes, less harsh more pronounced an certainly more detail.

Cool, good info.

I`ve just ordered a EHX Gold Pin for V1 (yeah, they`re cheap, but so am I :)) will report back on how\if it smoothes OD1 (I`m in a rock\blues style cover band so this is my main channel). Might swap it with the JJ in V2 for comparison. Hopefully it will cure the love\hate relationship I have with this amp!

On a side note, what is the difference between the ECC83 and ECC83 gold pin. the gold pin is twice as much as the regular ECC83, Thnx

gold is a better conductor, thus the price increase.

I have tried both EHX gold and normal and I couldn't tell a difference by my ears. But I am tempted to try one of these

Also looking forward for someone to experiment with KT88 in place of EL34 :)
