The only specs I can find say it has an "A-type" Celestion speaker. Does this mean it has an "Alnico" speaker? (blue/gold/cream)?

I have a regular HT 40 with the 70/80. It's fine for me so far. Just wondering what the Deluxe has. No shops have the DLX near me.

N/m... the "A-type" is an actual speaker by Celestion. Described as having an "American tone"... hence A-type... duh. :D

It's a Celestion 70/80, which is a budget/low end model. It sounds decent, but not great.

In the regular HT 40, yes. It seems the "Deluxe" model (has textured tolex) uses the A-Type instead of the 70/80.

Yes, the current "Deluxe" version comes with the so-called A-Type speaker - which seems to retail for a bit more money than the Seventy/80, but not as much as most of Celestion's better speakers.

The old HT Club 40 "Special Edition" model of a couple/few years ago was (IMO) a nicer upgrade model, as it came with a Celestion Vintage 30, which is a popular DIY upgrade choice. (The only other difference in this model was beige grille cloth, as well as a small "Special Edition" badge.) If you can find one of these around for a nice price, it's not a bad way to go, at least if you like the sound of Vintage 30's.

(Although, I actually like the regular grille cloth more than the beige...)

For heavier stuff, would an upgrade to an A-type or Vintage 30 or <XXXXX> but an improvement over the 70/80?

Have the MK2 mine has the 70/80 - But, i think it sounds best connected to my 2x12 V30 cab i have, and my HS with the Eminence Metal set (Swamp/Tx Heat) X pattern are also ok more mid rangy though.
