Just wondering if anyone has gone to the bother to change the poxy Sovtek 12AX7WA tube/valve from the HT Dual pedal. Pain in the ass to do it, but i got there in the end. I just put a Philips Miniwatt 12AX7 in to see if there was much improvement. Anyway, i will test it over the next few days and post the results.

You'll find some pictures on this french forum : http://fr.audiofanzine.com/distorsion-g ... .2678.html
It shows well how easy it is to swap the valve !

LOL. I have already changed the 12AX7, but did it backways by going in from the bottom panel. Well, i will know the next time.

I know, it's safer for the circuit to do it backward from what i've read. But it's easier to do the simple way if you take care when you unplug and re-plug the valve. The vertical little board that handle the tube socket is fragile and you just have to take care of it... Image

For info, I put (I think it was) a TungSol or an EH 12AX7 in a Blackstar DistX and it opened the EQ right up. It was a much better pedal after IMO.

EH or TungSol ? EH is very clear and wide, tunSol is crunch a lot more.

Can`t remember to be honest, can`t check now, I sold the pedal a couple of weeks ago.

I think it`s a worthwhile change though. I didn`t think there was enough treble on the Distx.

I went with a NOS Philips Miniwatt 12AX7. Much better though. The original Sovtek 12AX7WA does not get good reviews.

Also i noticed that the small pcb panel with the tube/valve was a bit delicate alright.
