Is there something wrong with this Blackstar HT-Metal?

With the gain set at 75% and above it screeches horribly inbetween playing. Apologies for sound quality on the video, audio is just from my cellphone camera but I think it demonstrates the issue pretty well. I thought maybe the tube had become microphonic, but strangely the screeching seems to go away when I put a buffer before it, and is replaced by some quieter white noise. I'm wondering whether this is just how these pedals behave?
