Thanks for sharing!
So your set up is Guitar -> EQ pedal -> OD pedal -> Amp right?
I've been thinking of putting the EQ pedal in front too since I have a little problem dealing with my guitar tone.
I use a Jackson Rhoads equipped with WCR IceBuckers, excellent pickups but they sounds VERY beefy and thus need more brightness for a saturated distortion I want.
I play a lot of Metallica songs too and my current HT5 head settings are;
ISF : full counter clockwise - I think for most metal tones, this is essential. Generally makes the sound tighter. Otherwise the low-end would go all over the place.
Treble : 4pm (I used to turn this to MAX but when played loud I lower the treble)
Mid : 9am
Bass : 10:30 am
Gain : 1pm + 8am gain on my OD pedal.
OD channel Volume : I found that the optimal volume (that doesn't disturb my family) is around 9am. Yeah it's still quite low but I'm satisfied with the tone I get.

Heya Vinch, no i run the eq thru the loop, makes a huge difference
compared to putting it thru the front, give it a go, i'm sure you
will be amazed
Yeah, i have a family too and run my volume @9 as well
still get awesome tone at that level though aye,
thinking of getting a Gus G Blackfire to run into the front of
the amp, ultra high gain!
