Carry-on Piano question

Hello all,
I hope this question is not out of place; I did not see a forum for the Carry-On Piano and I can't seem to find support for it anywhere else....
I'm rather enjoying the Carry-On Piano. Although it doesn't match playing my acoustic piano at home, the tradeoff is perfectly acceptable given its portability and functionality. Really, it's a great innovation for those of us who travel for business (non-music related) and don't want to carry a full size keyboard around the country.
Anyhow, the marketing materials indicate that the Carry-On is MIDI compatible via the USB cable. I'm using a USB to Lightening adapter to connect it to my iPad so that I may use it with various piano apps. However, the iPad does not recognize it.
Is there a trick to using it as a MIDI controller? Or is it incompatible with the iPad?
