Hi All,
Looking at buying my first amp (well, okay I have been using a Roland Cube for a few years).
I fancy an ID head to start with.
Can anyone express a preference between ID60 or ID 100 Head?
(home use, but I don't want to 'save £70', only to rue my decision later on...)
Thanks
Craig
ID60 or ID 100 Head?
sounds like you already made your decision. I own the ID100 with the matching slant cab, it's a pretty awesome set up and for the minimal price difference why even look at the 60?Jambocraig7 wrote:

Thanks for the advice
My only concern was that the ID100 might be too loud for home use
I don't gig or anything like that...

Not normally but TVP true valve power sure is. 100w will blow your windows out, hell 60 w will do the same.
I have the id 260 and live in the country with no neighbours and so far can't get to anywhere near full volume.

The 260 was one of my original options. How do you rate it? (Highland star)

Let me add a bit of clarity to this conversation, i hope...
Yes, the 100W CAN be very loud... But it doesn't have to be. The TVP series amps perform dangerously close to the way a traditional valve amp would. They respond well to volume rolloffs and have the potential to be quite competitive with their valve equivalent in terms of volume.
HOWEVER, they have a master volume in addition to the preamp/channel volume. In short, you can still get the same great tones and response at bedroom levels. Yes, the amp will still come alive the more you push the master volume, but they sound great at low volumes as well.
Perhaps you should try to play one if you have the chance at your local music store. I have the ID:260TVP. Works great at home. Works great on stage. In retrospect, I almost wish I had bought the ID:100TVP and half stack, but when I can augment my sound with emulated output or by mic'ing the cabinet, I am quite pleased with what I have for the sake of portability.
Hope this helps a little bit... If volume is your only concern, don't be afraid of the 100W. It sounds quite nice turned down.
*edited for some ridiculous typos. There's probably more.. I'm tired, don't judge me

ya I agree with myk, don't be afraid of being to loud, when I'm playing at home my master is usually 3 and it's plenty but it's still fun to crank it up in the basement sometimes. I also have the 260 and there is a noticeable difference in sound between the 2. you don't have the super wide stereo option on the 100 but the sound and bottom end is much more full, even at lower volumes. I thought I'd still get some use out of my 260 but I don't, it's been put up for sale. go for the 100 and the slant cab, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Myk and fantom,
Very useful advice.
You mention a slant cab... Are you referring to the 4x12?
